We've been stalled by the weather a bit...but who's complaining....

Today is dig day #3. The clay has really slowed us down, but with determination we will persevere! This morning it was like busting through rock...then we realized it was frozen...lol...once the sun hit it, the digging was just bad...not impossible.

The process now is to bust the clay loose with a pick, then shovel it out. We made a small sample of cob (clay/straw...didn't put any sand in) and it actually turned out better than we expected. Dried to the consistency and hardness of concrete! Very happy about that...will make some very strong walls, and I was able to polish (buff) it to a shine, which will be very good for the floor.

I also took a few pic's of our ATTACK ROOSTER and some of his running bud's.

This is day 2 Making some progress. And no, the kid's are not doing "all" the work here...they're helping "me" dig this hole...I just enjoy looking at them more than me. Progress is moving right along as we hit 21"....Also have gotten down to clay which is quite hard to dig out, but will be good for the cob walls for the addition!

Here's some pictures of our current project. We are digging a hole in the ground. 8 X 10X8 feet deep. Going to be a storm shelter. This is going to be a bit on the experimental side as we are going to use treated lumber instead of cement or rock. If I have everything engineered right, it should work out fine.
